FACT: 80% of ACT! users do only two things: Lookup phone numbers and then add a note to the contact record. So, they are using about 10% of the power of ACT!.
Implementing ACT! is only part of your sales and marketing efforts. The real benefit comes from integrating ACT! into your business model.
There are three aspects to a successful ACT! implementation.
- First, to correctly install and configure ACT!.
- Second, to customize ACT! to your business model.
- Third, to train the users so that they understand how ACT! compliments and enhances their work. My goal in working with my customers is to adapt the use of ACT! into the existing practices of your company. That means I want to meet with you in order to understand several things:
- How your firm locates and markets to suspects
- How your firm communicates with suspects
- How your firm communicates with prospects
- How your firm communicates with customers
- What your goals are for the ACT! implementation?
- Who is the project manager for this implementation?
- Who or what company manages your IT infrastructure?

Most ACT! adoptions fail because of 2 reasons; inadequate training and lack of management encouragement, after the fact. While the basic functions in ACT! are easy to learn, many users are never given the fundamental instructions on how ACT! can enhance their effectiveness and performance. So, they revert to old habits such as thinking Outlook is a contact manager. Second, if users are not required to use ACT!, they will not and it is incumbent on the management to set protocols for ACT! usage.
